Syllabus for Prelims Paper-1 and Paper-2 are summarized in simple format as below, it is only to understand about the important topics to beginners of UPSC, not take it for complete syllabus. In fact UPSC Syllabus is ocean we can’t determine from where the questions will be asked as the scope of UPSC is wide, unless until you get any official notification from the upsc regarding the syllabus change, there will be no modifications in syllabus

Changes made in the mains pattern
Previously you were given the answer sheets and mains question paper from the year (2014) you will given questions in the answer sheet only and the space below the question is provided for you to write your answer. according to the word limit that mentioned in the question you must write your answer
You know much many thing regarding the questions, but the trick is you must write those 200/300 words which fetches you marks, not the others what you want to write, this change introduces will not allows the candidates to strike and write again.
Out of 9 papers only 7 papers (compulsory papers and optional papers) are taken in account but he/she also need to get qualifying marks for selecting the candidate for interviews
Previously empty pages are given to write answers, but now only the space of required length is provided to the answers not less and not more, once you answer is wrong its gone, you are not provide with any additional space to rewrite the answer again.

You will be provided with 4 topics, and you have to write one essay from it
If you see the previous papers you can get some ideas regarding the topics that are asked in Essay. The candidate need to choose one topic and put his words in the space provided, he need to arrange his ideas in orderly fashion, credits will be given for effective and exact expressions in the essay

General Studies I (Paper-2) Syllabus
(India heritage and culture, history and geography of the world and Indian society)

History one of the important area under General studies paper-1. Questions are mainly from Indian Freedom Struggle, Modern, Medieval and Ancient History, Culture arts and architecture will form the main components in History. And the social and Economic aspects from different era and Dynasties should be studied.

For a good score in this paper every aspect and detail subject knowledge is necessary. The Books list listed here is limited, has to refer genuine books, good coaching centers, and good material and should use different available resources to cover all this aspects.

Social empowerment, communal-ism, regionalism, and secularism, Salient features of world’s physical geography, Distribution of natural resource across the world, Factors favoring for the location of primary, secondary and tertiary sectors around the world and India, Geophysical phenomena’s such as tsunami, earthquakes, volcano activities, etc geographical features and their locations change in critical geographical features (including water bodies and icecaps and flora and fauna)

General Studies – II (Paper 3) Syllabus
(Governance, constitution, polity, social justice and international relations)

Polity and governance of India is the way that how our country and the institution of governance runs. Main part of this paper includes the constitution articles and functioning of democratic system of India and main areas in this paper includes the Executive bodies, Legislature and the judiciary, court reference, Governance system and the ideologies like republic, Democratic, socialistic etc.

Social justice part includes the aspect the laws binding over them and the government sponsored programs and the issues that affect the social functions and problems (population, poverty, Dowry act, pension issues etc).

International Relations Explains the agreements and the deals that we have with the countries and bilateral and multilateral treaties’ with them. International Relations mainly deal with the security and Economic benefits between two or more nations.

GS-II Paper 3
(General Studies II, (Paper – 3) Governance, constitution, polity, social justice and international relations, etc))


Indian Constitution
Indian constitution-historical underpinnings, evolution, features, amendments, significant provisions and basic structure, Functions and responsibilities of union and the states, issues and challenges to federal structure of India, devolution of powers and finances up to ground level(local levels) and problems and challenges there in Separation of powers between various organs of governmental bodies, disputes readdresses mechanisms and institutions, Indian constitution and comparison with countries constitutions

Polity and Governance

General Studies –III (Paper 4)
(Technology, economic development, bio diversity, environment, security and disaster management)

General studies-3 or Paper-4 is one of the important paper which deals with Economic development, science and technology advancements, Environment and Ecology, Internal security and Disaster management aspects of our country. The detail analysis of these topic and the past questions reference give you a clear idea about this paper

Economic Development includes all the accounting topics, 5 year plans adopted and the success rates how the economy progress is moving, Inflation, fiscal policies and many other aspects

Science and technology involves the latest updates which mainly includes the technologies like Space, Defense, Energy, Nano-technology, Bio-technology etc, Environment and ecology deals with the agreements , conference, treaties, protocols that  relates to environmental aspects
